542 W 27th Street, New York, NY
Gallow Green offers a 2 hour brunch for $38 per guest located on the rooftop of the McKittrick Hotel (home to the immersive show, “Sleep No More” plus the Heath for a more upscale dinner and Manderley Bar).
The brunch includes numerous food items from scrambled eggs to salad to smoked salmon to bacon to fried chicken and waffles. The full menu can be found on their site here.
To top it off, unlimited coffee, tea, and juices are provided. Anything alcohol is additional and their cocktails sadly start at $14 a pop, which is on par with the rest of the City.
I had the Sleep No More $17 (pictured above), which was absolutely delicious. I also ordered the Gallow Green $17, which was more on the sour side, still delicious, but only came in a small champagne glass.
The rooftop is gorgeous and the savoury foods are served in an old train car, which looks amazing. On the other side of the roof are the sweet foods. The whole rooftop looks like a shabby chic, bohemian garden, which is absolutely beautiful. An amazing live band plays throughout the brunch (a bit louder than one would like but not terribly too loud where it’s impossible to talk to friends). The wooden seats may not be the most comfortable and it is a bit cramped in the tables, which again, is normal in the City.
From the outside, you are greeted by an attendant who checks your ID as it’s 21 and over. Then you go into a dark 1920’s style elevator with an elevator attendant. The whole dining experience is in the same vein as the “Sleep No More” show, which is great.
If you love a beautiful garden setting overlooking the Chelsea neighbourhood, then Gallow Green is definitely the spot. I love it so much that I definitely intend to try to replicate this for my own backyard. Now, how do I move a whole old train car?
